DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College football team fell, 43-10, against Coe College on Saturday afternoon inside the Rock Bowl.
Joey Helminiak led the Duhawk offense going 22-of-38 for 214 passing yards. Leading the running attack for Loras (0-5 overall, 0-3 A-R-C) was
Tanner Gile who recorded 12 carries, for 62 yards and one touchdown.
Justin Stephens followed closely behind Gile, tallying 20 carries for 39 yards.
Ian Broshous hauled in a game-high eight catches for 67 yards, while
Jacob Tedrow recorded five catches for 46 yards.
On defense,
Niko Jemilo led the Purple and Gold with 12 total tackles, while
Owen Kelly recorded nine tackles. Cormiac Flynn provided the lone turnover for the Duhawks by forcing a fumble in the third quarter.
Coe (5-0, 3-0) scored 29 unanswered points to start the game. The Kohawks got on the board first with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Clay Krousie to Slade Huerta. Trenton Barnes would go on to score three rushing touchdowns over the course of the first half, which included touchdown runs of 31, 12, and two yards.
Loras ended the first half with a 17-play, 65-yard drive that resulted in a
Scott Talmadge 21-yard field goal.
After a scoreless third quarter, Gile capped off an 80-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run to give Loras its first touchdown of the game. Coe would add two more touchdowns in the quarter on the way to their fifth win of the season.
Up Next: Loras will travel to Decorah, Iowa to face off against Luther College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 inside Carlson Stadium.
