DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College football team celebrated senior day with a 32-22 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon.
Joey Helminiak threw for 233 yards, completing 23-of-35 pass attempts, while throwing for two touchdowns. Helminiak also added 43 rushing yards to his stat line. Leading the run game for Loras (2-7 overall, 2-5 A-R-C) was
Carter Cahill. Cahill rushed 15 times, totaling 61 yards, all while finding the end zone twice.
Jacob Tedrow led all receivers with six receptions for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Ian Broshous hauled in five catches for 49 yards, while
Jimmy Peterson recorded four catches, racking up 28 yards.
The Duhawks defense forced three interceptions on the afternoon.
Cormaic Flynn led the way with two, while
Micah Hendricks and
Brandon Glover each recorded one.
Henry Ivers led Loras with six tackles, while Hendricks and
Owen Kelly each tallied four tackles.
The Prairie Fire put themselves on the scoreboard first after Connor White found Joey McLaughlin on a 69-yard touchdown pass. Loras would respond by scoring twice in a two-minute span. Helminiak connected with Tedrow for a nine-yard touchdown pass at the 8:59-minute mark in the first quarter, before Cahill scored his first touchdown of the game at the 7:08 mark to give the Duhawks a 13-7 lead.
After another Nebraska Wesleyan (3-6, 2-5) touchdown, Loras rattled off 19 unanswered points. During the stretch,
Scott Talmadge connected on two field goals from 23 and 35-yards,
Jaheem Haynes hauled in a 37-yard touchdown catch, and Cahill scored his second touchdown on a three-yard run.
