DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's basketball team handled Northland College, 111-57, on Sunday afternoon inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Duhawks erased the only Northland (0-2 overall) lead with a three-pointer from
Gavin Sarvis to put the Purple and Gold back in front (6-5). Loras (3-0) used a 17-0 run to extend its lead to 38 (51-13) and held a 63-21 advantage the half.
The Duhawks outscored the visitors 48-36 in the second half to secure their third victory of the season with ease.
Tyler Bass paced the Loras offense with 18 points and eight boards. The Washington, Ill. native shot 7-of-9 from the floor and was a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Sarvis chipped in 12 points and recorded three steals, while
Jared Pearson rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Duhawks with 11 points and four assists. Both Sarvis and Pearson were a flawless 4-of-4 from the charity stripe as well. As a team, Loras shot 60 percent (39-of-65) from the field and won the battle on the boards 39-20.
The Lumberjacks were led by Iansan Simpson and Damian Cejka who finished with 12 and 11 points respectively. As a team, Northland shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the floor and 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the foul line.
