Duhawks Post 1-1 Mark in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. – The Loras College men's tennis team split a pair of matches at the Powless Tennis Center this past Saturday.

The Duhawks defeated the Edgewood College Eagles by a score of 7-2, before dropping their second match of the day to Cornell College 5-4.

Sean Gelski and Andrew Day came up short at No. 1 doubles, falling 8-3 to Caden Nelson and Andrew Hoffmann. Henry Condo and Gannon Harrington fell 8-7 and 7-5 in the tiebreaker to Jon Olafsson and Marek Woytasik in the No. 2 spot, while Luis Garcia and Jeremiah Allen gave the Duhawks their sole point in doubles play with an 8-3 win over Ethan Towne and Alton Robinson in the No. 3 spot.

The Purple and Gold swept the Eagles in singles play to secure the 7-2 victory. Gage Becker handled Nelson 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Kareem Kassas defeated Olafsson 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Lucas Healy outlasted Hoffman in the No. 3 spot taking set one by a score of 7-6 (9-7 in the tiebreaker) and 6-3 in set two. Condo defeated Robinson 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, while Day and Diego Hernandez Arrazate posted identical scores of 6-1, 6-0 over their opponents at No. 4 and 6 singles respectively.

Similarly to their first match of the day, the Duhawks scored their only point in doubles competition in the No. 3 spot. Kassas and Hernandez Arrazate came out on top against Zachary Ong and August Krahn by scores of 8-7 and 7-5 in the tiebreaker to put Loras behind by just one heading into singles play.

Thomas Kampmier earned the win at No. 3 singles over Ong by scores of 6-4, 1-6 and 10-5 in the tiebreaker, while Healy followed suit with a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the No. 5 spot. Samuel Cañas Guerrero tallied the final point of the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles against Edwin Holyoake.

Up Next: The Duhawks take on their first American Rivers Conference opponent, Luther College, on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10:00 a.m. in Decorah, Iowa.
