DUBUQUE, Iowa – The No. 2/12 Loras College Track and Field teams competed in two meets on Friday, with the varsity squad heading up to La Crosse, Wis. to take part in the Indoor Eagle Open at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, while select others stayed closer to home to partake in the University of Dubuque's Sol Butler Classic.
At the Indoor Eagle Open, the No. 2 women finished first out of 10 competing teams with 99 team points, while the No. 12 men finished fourth against 12 teams with 53 points. At the Sol Butler Classic, Loras' men and women each finished sixth.
The women's program saw three individual titles at UW-La Crosse, with
Emma Seipel stealing the show by winning two separate events. In the 60 meter dash, Seipel closed out the race with a personal best time of 7.73 – moving her up to fifth all-time at Loras. The Nekoosa, Wis. native would later go on to win the long jump after clearing 5.74 meters (18-10) and would etch her name 10
th in Loras' record books with a 200 meter time of 25.95.
Sara Hoskins had herself a day, as the multi-sport athlete cleared 1.68 meters (5-6) in the high jump, which not only won her the event, but also placed second in school history and sixth nationally.
On the men's side,
Ryan Harvey was the lone winner at the Indoor Eagle Open after racing for a season-best time of 1:54.87 in the 800 meter.
At the Sol Butler Classic, the Duhawks saw five record top-five finishes, with
Taylor Flaig leading the way with her second-place finish in the weight throw, as the Tripoli, Iowa native tossed for 15.42 meters (50-7.25). Ahmari Meeks-Miller recorded a personal best in the triple jump after leaping for 13.12 meters (43-0.5), while
Michael Coy placed fifth in the 200 meter race at 23.25.
Holden Murphy continued his strong indoor season, recording a pair of fifth place finishes in the weight throw and the shot put. In the weight throw, Murphy tossed for 19.63 meters (64-5), before throwing for 15.92 meters (52-2.75) in the shot put.
Next on the docket for the track and field teams is the American Rivers Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which are set to get underway on Friday, Feb. 23. The Duhawks won't have to travel far, as the University of Dubuque is playing host.
