BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Loras College men's volleyball team continued its winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday evening inside the Shirk Center.
The Duhawks raced out to a 4-0 lead to start the match, but the Titans used a 5-2 run to get themselves within one. Loras (13-0 overall, 2-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) led by six multiple times throughout the remainder of the set en route to a 25-19 set one win.
Despite trailing by one (3-2) early on, the Purple and Gold utilized a 7-1 run to take a 9-4 lead. The Duhawks created even more separation with another five-point run to increase their lead to eight (14-6) midway through set two. Loras went on to earn their largest set victory of the night by a score of 25-13.
Similarly, to set one, the Duhawks held a 4-0 advantage to begin set three, however, the Titans were able to stay close by due to three Loras errors and a block by Javier Romano and Luke Hartke, which cut the Duhawk lead to just two. The Purple and Gold rattled off three consecutive points to extend the lead back to five, which allowed them to withstand trading points for the rest of the match.
Corey Mayotte led the Loras offense with 11 kills, hitting .786 on the night to go along with two service aces.
Dorian Fiorenza finished with double-digit kills (10) as well, while
Joe Horn dished out 27 assists.
Sean Wenzel totaled six blocks, while
Brady Oberfoell tallied a team-high seven digs. As a team, the Duhawks hit .333, which featured 33 kills and 9 errors in 72 attempts.
