DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's volleyball team grabbed a 3-0 victory over North Park University on Senior Day inside the Lillis Athletic and Wellness Center.
The Vikings scored the first point of the opening set, but the Duhawks were able to regain control and dominate for the remainder of the set. Loras (20-0 overall, 7-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) held the visitors to just eight points, while posting three four-point runs and one five-point run en route to taking the set 25-8.
The Purple and Gold utilized a 5-0 run to break the final tie at 9-9 in set two. The Duhawks led by as many as six (24-18) and held off the Vikings comeback attempt that reduced the lead to just three late in the set (24-21). Loras came out on top in the second set by a score of 25-21.
Despite North Park (7-17, 0-6) staying close by in set three, the Duhawks rattled off seven consecutive points to take a 22-16 lead late in the set. Loras completed the sweep with a 25-18 win in the final set.
The Purple and Gold led a balanced offensive attack with
Corey Mayotte putting down 14 kills and
Dorian Fiorenza following closely behind with 12 of his own.
Joe Horn handed out 34 assists, while
Brady Oberfoell totaled 14 digs.
Roman Rothermel also led the team in blocks with four in the match. As a team, the Duhawks hit .395, which featured 43 kills and 11 errors in 81 attempts.
Pablo Ocasio led the way for the Vikings with 10 kills. Teddy Gedville dished out 22 assists, while Kaleb Patrick tallied 12 digs. As a team, North Park hit .154, finishing with 31 kills and 17 errors in 91 attempts.
