DES MOINES, Iowa – The Loras College men's and women's track and field program finished off a busy weekend across the Midwest on Saturday evening with the conclusion of the 114
th annual Drake Relays.
The No. 5 women had eight top-10 event finishes, while the No. 12 men closed out the meet with five.
One of the most dazzling performances of the meet came by way of the Duhawks' 4x200-meter relay team of
Emma Seipel,
Alyssa Pfadenhauer,
Kelly Kohlhof, and
Harmony Creasy, a quartet who reset Loras' record books with their second place finish of 1:40.18 – the top mark in program history and second-fastest time in NCAA Division III history.
The relays continued to be a strong spot for the women, as the 4x800-meter relay team closed out their race in third. The squad consisted of Pfadenhauer,
Becca Diddia,
Emily Jackson, and
Frankie Chaidez and finished with a time of 9:09.89, which fell just 0.4 seconds off the school record.
Creasy, Seipel,
Grace Alley, and Megan McDonald teamed up to race as part of the 4x100-meter relay team and ran 46.50 in the preliminary round, which is the seventh-fastest time in program history. The group would go on to finish sixth in the finals with a mark of 46.87.
In the field events, Alley finished fourth in the triple jump – closing out the event with a mark of 11.96 meters (39-3). She would later go on to finish in a tie for sixth place with
Sara Hoskins in the high jump, as the duo each cleared 1.65 meters (5-5).
The men's 4x200-meter team made up of
Dayvion Foreman,
Ted Kruse,
Ian Fagan, and
Matt Kruse put on a show of their own, breaking the school record with their finishing time of 1:25.75. That mark placed them second at the meet, merely one second shy of Olivet Nazarene in first and half a second faster than NCAA Division I counterpart Nebraska.
Meanwhile, Loras' 4x800-meter relay squad of
Carlo Dannenfelser,
Ryan Harvey,
Elliot Frideres, and
Joe Franke finished their race in fifth at a time of 7:42.42, which is the seventh-fastest time in program history.
The distance medley relay team of
Jacob Belha,
Carson Vaske,
Joe Franke, and
Ryan Harvey finished the race in third with a time of 9:51.75, placing the group second in the history books at Loras and making them the fastest of all Division III schools at the meet.
Raymond Vendetti finished the pole vault in seventh, clearing 4.82 meters (15-9.75). In the discus throw,
Holden Murphy placed ninth after throwing 53.21 meters (174-7).
The program will be back in action on Friday, May 3 for the Spartan Open, hosted by the University of Dubuque. The meet will serve as the final tune-up for the Duhawks, as the 2024 American Rivers Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships are to follow May 9-11.
