Box Score DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team opened their 2024 campaign with a dominant 7-0 win over Ripon College.
At the No. 1 spot for doubles,
Caroline Hutchinson and
Leia Papanicholas won the first match for the Purple and Gold by a score of 6-2 over Josie Rondestvedt and Tia Endrizzi. The Duhawks didn't let up as
Mary Breitbach and
Dorothy Deans swept the Red Hawks 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. The Duhawks finished off strong in doubles play with
Ellie Kalina and
Alexis Tatum rounding out at the No.3 spot with a 6-2 finish over Allison Pavlovec and Catherine Skoglund.
The singles were solid for the Duhawks, as Breitbach defeated Rondestvedt at the No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2, while Deans had a strong performance in the No.2 spot with scores of 6-1 and 6-3, defeating Endrizzi. Hutchinson followed suit and took the win at the No.4 spot with scores of 6-0 and 6-2, solidifying the victory over Hadley Berendsen.
In the later part of the match at No. 4 singles, Papanicholas battled back after falling 2-6 in the first set and came back to win set two 7-5. She came out on top in set three by winning the tie breaker 10-4. Kalina and Tatum won their respective matches at No.5 and No.6 singles solidifying the Duhawks victory at home.
