INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Loras College football team fell 66-14 to Simpson College in its first American Rivers Conference road test on Saturday afternoon inside Buxton Stadium.
Simpson (2-2 overall, 1-1 A-R-C) capped off a six-play, 45-yard opening drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Cole Staska to give the Storm a 7-0 lead. The home team added on six more touchdowns in the first half to head into the break with a 45-0 advantage over the Duhawks.
Loras (0-4, 0-2) got its offense rolling in the third quarter, scoring touchdowns on back-to-back drives.
Justin Stephens put the Duhawks on the board with a 68-yard rushing touchdown to start the third quarter, finishing off a three-play, 75-yard drive. The second scoring play for the Purple and Gold was made by
Ian Broshous who caught a 34-yard pass from
Joey Helminiak to make the score 52-14.
Quarterbacks
Max Golembiewski and Helminiak completed 13-of-27 passing for a combined 135 yards through the air. Stephens controlled the ground game for the Duhawks, rushing for 141 yards on 17 carries, while Broshous totaled six receptions for 94 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball,
Owen Kelly led the way with 12 total tackles (4 solo), while
Brandon Glover followed closely behind with 10 tackles (7 solo).
Michael Carney recorded the sole sack of the contest for a loss of eight yards. He was joined by six other Duhawks who tallied a tackle for loss.
Up Next: The Purple and Gold will host Coe College for the homecoming weekend game on Oct. 5. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside the Rock Bowl.
