Box Score 2 ELDRIDGE, Iowa/MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Loras College women's tennis team split its first pair of road matches against St. Ambrose University and Monmouth College on Saturday.

The sole doubles win came from the No. 1 spot where
Dorothy Deans and
Ellie Kalina defeated Chiara Aguirre Cortez & Yeva Shershan, 6-4. With only one win in doubles play, the Duhawks were unable to secure the doubles point and headed into singles down 0-1 to the Bees.

The Duhawks tried to battle back in singles but fell short to the Bees as they were only able to secure two singles wins. Deans defeated Aguirre Cortez at the No. 1 spot 6-4, 2-6 and 10-8, while
Caroline Hutchinson outlasted Shershan at the No. 2 spot 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Loras 6, Monmouth 1
Later in the day, the Duhawks traveled to Monmouth, Ill. to silence the Scots with a 6-1 victory. Loras was able to start off strong securing the doubles point. Kalina and
Alexis Tatum only dropped one game against opponents Kimber Calvert and Jennifer Shimmin, defeating them 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. Hutchinson and
Lauren Keiper held out against Natalie Holst and Alayna McKinley at the No. 3 spot, winning 7-5.

Loras confidently headed into singles action with a 1-0 lead. Hutchinson started off strong adding another tally on the win side for the Duhawks, by handling Calvert at the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-3. The Scots earned their only point of the day at the No. 5 spot with Holst defeating Tatum 6-0, 6-2. Kalina took care of Shimmin at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-3 win, while Keiper fought back at No. 6 to defeat Mckinley 6-1, 5-7 and 10-1.
Mary Breitbach had a comeback victory at No. 1, overcoming Ivana Stefanova 3-6, 6-4, 10-4. Deans secured the final win for the Duhawks at No. 2, conquering Natalie Labicki 7-6 (7-3), 7-5.

UP NEXT: The Duhawks will return home to compete in their first conference match of the season, taking on the Wartburg College Knights at the Tucker Tennis Courts on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. Following that match, the Purple and Gold will face off against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in a non-conference dual at 5 p.m.
