Duhawks Bounce Back with 61-48 Win Over Norse

DECORAH, Iowa - Heading into Wednesday night's matchup against the Luther College Norse, the Loras College men's basketball team was looking to get back on track following its 78-76 loss to Central College on Saturday. The Duhawks did exactly that with a 61-48 win inside Regents Center Gymnasium.

In the first half, the Duhawks led by as many as 10, followed by a four-minute sequence without a bucket for either squad. Tyler Bass hit a jumper (17-5) and Loras (11-4, 5-1 A-R-C) rolled on. Luther (1-14, 0-7) was led by Will Bockenstedt, who led all scorers with eight points in the first half. The Norse continued putting pressure on the Duhawks, forcing 15 turnovers. The Purple and Gold held onto a 26-22 lead on 9-of-24 shooting from the field going into halftime.

To start the second half, the Duhawks controlled the pace of play behind back-to-back three's from Gavin Sarvis (33-25). The lead got as high as 20 points (54-34) with under nine minutes to go. The Norse marched right back by going on a 16-0 run behind Aidan Bailey shooting 4-of-5 from the field. His 15-point performance wasn't enough as the Duhawks closed Luther out with a 13-point victory fueled by Sarvis' 16 points.

Kyle Kober came off the bench with 12 points and five rebounds of his own. Mikkel Schutte had an efficient shooting night with eight points from the field (4-of-8) and six rebounds. Bockenstedt had eight points of his own, going 2-of-5 from three and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. As a team, the Duhawks shot 45.1 percent (23-of-51) from the field and 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from behind the three-point line.

Up Next: The Duhawks look to make it two wins in a row on Saturday, Jan. 18 as they take on the Simpson College Storm in Indianola. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
