INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Loras College men's basketball team erased an early 12-point deficit to earn a 100-72 victory over Simpson College on Saturday afternoon inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
The Duhawks played from behind a majority of the first half, trailing by as many as 12 with 10:44 left to play in the half. Loras (12-4, 6-1 A-R-C) put itself back in front after
Gavin Sarvis tipped in a layup at 3:15, giving the Purple and Gold their first lead of the contest (31-30). The Duhawks held onto a two-point lead (39-37) at the break.
The second half was all Loras. The Purple and Gold outscored Simpson (4-13, 1-7) 61-35 in the final half, leading by as many as 33 points with under two minutes left to play. The Duhawks earned their fourth double-digit victory of American Rivers Conference play with their decisive win today.
Sarvis ignited the Loras offense, finishing with a career-high 40 points. The Elgin, Ill. native shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the floor, while also adding a pair of steals, five assists and eight rebounds to his stat line.
Tyler Bass tallied his sixth double-double of the season with a 24-point, 10 rebound performance, while
Alex Singleton rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Duhawks with 13 points. The Purple and Gold shot 48.5 percent (32-of-66) from the field and 76.5 percent (26-of-34) from the foul line.
Levi Gurwell and Matt Schubert paced the Storm, totaling 13 and 10 points respectively. As a team, Simpson shot 50.0 percent (25-of-50) from the floor and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the free throw line.
