DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's volleyball team secured a four-set victory over the Luther College Norse on Friday, Oct. 10 for their first American Rivers Conference victory.
Loras (5-13 overall, 1-2 A-R-C) dominated both sides of the ball from the first serve and never trailed in the first set. After a Luther (5-16, 0-4) service error,
Carrah Bainbridge sparked a five-point service run to extend the Duhawks lead to 10 (15-5). The Norse brought the lead down to six (21-15), but Loras stood tall, scoring four of the last five points to take set one, 25-16.
The Duhawks carried their momentum into set two with a .344 hitting percentage.
Autumn Finch extended a 3-3 tie to an eight-point advantage, and the Duhawks never looked back tallying another 25-16 set win.
Luther responded in set three and led comfortably for the majority of the contest before the Purple and Gold cut it to two (22-20). Each team traded points until the end, concluding with a kill from Luther's Annika Franzen to seal set three, 25-22.
Set four saw six lead changes and 13 ties from start to finish. Loras built a late 19-15 lead before the Norse responded with a 6-1 run of their own. Outside hitter
Cat Meyer delivered a powerful kill down the line to give the Duhawks their first match point, then ended the match moments later with one more kill to capture set four, 26-24.
Allie Burke,
Elaina Schroeder, and Meyer all finished with nine kills, respectively.
Emily Mohr tallied 17 assists, while
Alyssa Daughenbaugh followed up with 16 of her own. Finch concluded the match with three blocks and eight digs.
Up Next: The Duhawks travel to Platteville, Wis. to take on the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers on Saturday, Oct. 11. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
