DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Loras College men's soccer team advanced to the American Rivers Conference Tournament semifinals with a commanding 7–0 victory over Simpson College on Saturday night at the Rock Bowl.
The Duhawks (11-1-6, 4-1-3 A-R-C) came out firing, opening the scoring in the fifth minute when
Dani Galiana Torres finished off a pass from
Sep Heerkens, who slipped a through ball into the box for Galiana Torres to put away. Less than ten minutes later, the two flipped roles as
Townes Robertson buried a shot from inside the 18, assisted by Heerkens and Galiana Torres, giving Loras a 2–0 lead heading into halftime.
The Duhawks' offense erupted after the break, striking five times in the second half. Heerkens added his own goal in the 60th minute before Galiana Torres tallied his second of the match by way of a penalty kick in the 64th to make it 4–0.
Kael Pacaro pushed the lead to five in the 70th minute, connecting on a cross from
Dominic Scandariato for his fourth goal of the year.
Matthew Fireng netted his first collegiate goal in the 87th minute off a pass from
Charlie Sieg, who followed moments later with his own first career goal in the 89th minute, assisted by
Jacob Underwood, to cap the dominant 7–0 victory.
Goalkeepers
Alexander Drexler and
Nathaniel Gerling combined for the clean sheet, making four saves on 10 shots faced.
Loras outshot Simpson 17–10 and held a 6–5 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next: The Duhawks move on to the A-R-C Tournament semifinals, traveling to face second-seeded Wartburg College on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
