INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Loras College women's volleyball team put together a competitive showing on Saturday afternoon, taking a set and pushing multiple others to the wire, but ultimately fell 3-1 to Simpson College inside Cowles Fieldhouse.
The Duhawks move to 6-18 overall and 2-5 in American Rivers Conference play, while Simpson advances to 17-7 and 4-3 in league action. Set scores were 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, and 25-21.
Loras came out strong in the opening frame, matching the Storm point-for-point in one of the tightest sets of the afternoon. A late push from Simpson, however, gave the home team the narrow 25-23 decision.
The Storm carried that momentum in the second set, extending their lead in the match before the Duhawks responded with an impressive 25-19 win in the third. Loras' offense found its rhythm in the set, hitting .178 as a team and generating pressure from the service line.
The Duhawks continued to fight in the fourth, but Simpson held off the rally to seal the match.
Offensively,
Autumn Finch and
Cat Meyer led the way with 12 kills each, while
Elaina Schroeder delivered one of her more efficient performances of the season, hitting .450 with 10 kills on 20 swings. Finch also recorded three service aces and added two blocks to finish with a team-high 17Â points.
In the backcourt,
Lucie Lambe anchored the defense with a match-high 24 digs, while
Iva Senio (14 digs) and
Carrah Bainbridge (13 digs) added steady defensive support. At the net, Schroeder led all players with four blocks, helping Loras slow Simpson's attack throughout the afternoon.
The Duhawks used a two-setter system effectively as
Alyssa Daughenbaugh posted 20 assists, while
Emily Mohr added in 17 assists to go along with three digs and a block assist.
Up Next: Loras will return to action next week on Wednesday, Nov. 5, as they host the University of Dubuque for Kid Captain/DuThon Night. Match time is set for 6:05 p.m.
