MEQUON, Wis. – The Loras College men's volleyball team took down Concordia University Wisconsin in straight sets on Friday night inside the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
The Duhawks rattled off five consecutive points early on in the opening set to break the final tie (7-7) and take a 12-7 lead. Loras (3-1, 0-0 CCIW) led by as many as 11 en route to a 25-14 set one win.
The Purple and Gold responded to the first Falcons point of the second set with a 5-0 run, which featured four kills from
Corey Mayotte, to take a 5-1 lead. The Duhawks strung together a six-point run later on to increase their lead to eight (18-10). Loras closed out set two with four straight points to take the set 25-14 once again.
Concordia Wisconsin (2-5, 0-0 NACC) stayed close by the entirety of the third set, never letting Loras lead by more than six points. Mayotte's match point kill gave the Purple and Gold a 25-20 set three win to complete the sweep.
Mayotte put down 17 kills and hit .484 to lead the Duhawk offense. The Geneva, Ill. native added a pair of service aces, three blocks and seven digs to his stat line as well.
Nolan Krygsheld totaled eight kills and seven digs on the night, while
Roman Rothermel and
Connor Jaral added in six kills apiece. As a team, Loras hit .402, tallying 45 kills and 10 errors in 87 attempts.
The Falcons were led by Tate Miller who finished with six kills and five digs. Lucas Beres followed closely behind with five kills, while Hayden Hurley dished out 17 assists to go along with two blocks and six digs. Concordia Wisconsin hit .086 as a team, totaling 22 kills and 15 errors in 81 attempts.
Up Next: The Duhawks travel to Lisle, Ill. to face off against the Benedictine University Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 1. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
