LISLE, Ill. – The Loras College men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep over Benedictine University Saturday night inside the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
In set one, Benedictine (3-4, 0-0 NACC) jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before the Duhawks scored four straights points to tie the match at six. From that point on, the match was tied 10 different times, with the last coming at 17-17.
Corey Mayotte recorded back-to-back kills late in the set to give his team a 22-20 advantage. The Duhawks would hang on and win set one 25-22.
In set two, it was the Duhawks turn to start fast as they raced out to an early 10-3 lead. Loras (4-1, 0-0 CCIW) would maintain control the rest of the set, ultimately never trailing in the 25-19 set two win.
Set three featured a lot of back-and-forth play as neither team was able to pull away early. With the set tied at 11, a kill by
Connor Jaral sparked a 7-2 run for the Purple and Gold that proved to be the difference. The Duhawks would never look back and would complete the sweep with a 25-18 win.
Mayotte continued to lead the way for Loras, finishing the night with 17 kills to go along with three service aces.
Roman Rothermel led the Purple and Gold with three blocks, and finished with seven kills.
Evan Dziadkowiec dished out 34 assists while also leading the team in digs with eight.
