FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Loras College men's volleyball team took down Marian University, 3-0, on Thursday night at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Duhawks battled early with the Sabres before finding their footing to gain a 15-9 lead midway through the set. Loras (6-1, 0-0 CCIW) didn't look back and took the first set 25-20.
The beginning of the second set started very similar to the first set. The two teams traded points until the Purple and Gold strung together an 8-0 run to take a 19-9 lead late in the set. Loras would go on to win the set, 25-13.
Marian University (6-4, 1-0 NACC) opened up the third set by scoring the first two points before
Corey Mayotte and
Roman Rothermel rallied the Duhawks to a 9-5 lead. Loras would continue to build on their lead and take the set, 25-15, to complete the sweep.
Rothermel led all players with 11 kills, hitting .786 with 3 digs.
Corey Mayotte had 11 kills of his own, with 3 service aces and 3 digs. As a team, the Duhawks hit .515, with 40 kills and only 5 errors on 68 attempts.
The Sabres were led by Adrian Calderon, who had 9 kills and 3 digs. Derek Wills trailed behind with 8 kills and 5 of the Sabres' 19 digs. Marian University hit .169 as a team, combining for 29 kills and 16 errors on 77 attempts.
Up Next: The Duhawks will return home for their conference opener against North Park University on Tuesday, February 18. Game time is scheduled for at 7 p.m. at Lillis Court.
