NEENAH, Wis. — The Loras College men's tennis team fell short in back-to-back matches against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Carroll University on Saturday at the Ogden YMCA and Valley Tennis Center.
Loras 1, UW-Stevens Point 6
The Pointers controlled both singles and doubles play, winning five of six singles matches and sweeping all but one doubles contest. At the No. 1 doubles spot, Diego Mejias and Gage Becker secured a 6-3 win over Steven Benoy and Frederick Diehl. Samuel Canas Guerro and Lucas Healy fell in the No. 2 doubles to Ayden Knuth and Malcom Rice, 6-4. Rounding out doubles play, Sean Sonoiki and Nick Carney were defeated by Connor Kryscio and Ben Temple, 6-3.
Becker claimed the only singles victory for the Duhawks, winning 7-6 (12-10), 6-2 over Dawson Froemming. Mejias and Canas Guerro fell short in No. 1 and No. 3 singles, while Sonoiki, Andrew Day, and Henry Condo faced similar outcomes at the No. 4, 5, and 6 spots.
Loras 0, Carroll 7
The Pioneers swept all three doubles matches and carried the momentum into singles play.
At No. 1 and No. 4 singles, Mejias and Healy were defeated 6-4 and 6-2, respectively. Becker battled at No. 2, winning the first set 6-4 before falling 0-6 and 1-0 (12-10) in a tiebreaker. Sonoiki and Day were each defeated 6-3 and 6-2 at the No. 3 and No. 5 spots. Carney fell short against Felix Persson, 6-1 and 6-3.
