MILWAUKEE, Wis. – On Saturday, the Loras College men's tennis team was defeated by the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
The Duhawks started off with a strong fight in doubles but weren't able to pull it off against the Milwaukee School of Engineering. At No. 3 doubles, Samuel Canas Guerrero and
Sean Sonoiki created the lone win with a 6-3 victory over the MSOE's Pedro Mendes and Augusto Yamazaki. At No. 1 doubles, Diego Mejias and
Gage Becker had a close fight attempting to grab the doubles point but fell short 4-6. At No. 2 doubles,
Lucas Healy and
Jackson Craig were defeated 1-6. The purple and gold went into singles action down 0-1.
In singles play, the Purple and Gold closely competed with the Raiders with two matches going into tiebreakers, yet none went in our favor. Mejias battled but fell to Andres Saavedra 4-6, 6-1, 0-1(8) at No. 1 singles. At the No. 2 spot, Becker was downed 3-6, 3-6. Canas Guerrero and Sonoiki were defeated at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots 2-6, 2-6, respectively. At No. 5 singles, Healy had the battle of tiebreakers that would just not go in his favor, losing 6-7(9), 6-1, 0-1(7). Finally, at the No. 6 spot,
Andrew Day fell 1-6, 0-6, leaving the final score of the match 0-7.
Up Next: The Loras College men's tennis team will be traveling to Orlando, Fla. for a series of five spring break matches between March 11-13. Their first opponent will be King's College on Tuesday, Mar. 11 at 7:00 a.m.
