ORLANDO, Fla. – The Loras College men's tennis team goes 1-1 after day one of matches against King's College and Bethel University.
Loras 6, King's 1
It was a sweep in doubles as all three matches were taken by the Duhawks. At the No. 1 spot Diego Mejias and
Gage Becker defeated John Toussiant and Patrick Pech 6-3. Samuel Canas Guerro and
Jackson Craig took down Cody Zheng and Gavin Hall 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. Finishing off a strong showing for the Duhawks came by way of
Henry Condo and
Jack Seda as they bested Zackary Bedwell and Amir Samadian 6-2 to secure the No. 3 doubles win and lead 1-0 going into singles.
The lone win for the King's came at the No. 1 singles spot as Diego Mejias fell short to Toussiant in a tiebreaker 6-1, 4-6 (7-10). In the No. 2 spot Becker defeated Patrick Pech 3-6, 6-3 (10-0) and Canas Guerro took down Zheng at the No. 3 spot by 6-3 in both matches. Day and Condo defeated their opponents both by 6-2 and 6-0 respectively at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot while Seda closed out singles play with a 6-0 and 6-4 win over Bedwell in the final spot.
Loras 0, Bethel 7
After a strong showing in the first match the Purple and Gold came up short against the Royals. In doubles play the Duhawks went 0-3 and went into singles play down by one as Becker and Mejias were defeated by Watson Sheard and Carter Sheard 4-6. Craig and Canas Guerro fell short to Robert Seaton and Zach Bengston 3-6 and Day and Condo faced the same outcome to Eli Scheideman and Brett Eliason.
In singles play it was all Bethel. Mejias fell in the No. 1 spot to C. Sheard 6-7 (5-7) and 1-6. Becker lost to Dylan Magistad in a tiebreaker 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (4-10) while Canas Guerro came up short in a similar fashion to Zach Chaffey by scores of 7-6, 1-1, 0-1 (2-10). Day and Condo were defeated 0-6 and 1-6 in both matches and Craig fell 6-7 (5-7) and 4-6 in No. 6 singles.
