Men's and Women's Tennis Fall to Otterbein University

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Loras College men's and women's tennis teams came up short to Otterbein University in two early morning matches in day two of the trip to Florida.

Men: Loras 3, Otterbein 4
The Duhawks went into singles play down 0-1 as the only doubles win came by way of Diego Mejias and Gage Becker who won by a score of 7-6 over Max Fickas and Neil Reddy. The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairs would fall short 4-6 and 1-6.

In singles the Duhawks fought back earning three wins as Mejias took down Sajan Shanker at the No. 1 spot 7-5, 1-6, and 10-6. Gage Becker followed suit and defeated Reddy 7-6 and 6-1. Jackson Craig secured the final win for the Duhawks 7-5 and 6-1 over Zach Frederick, but it just wasn't enough as the remaining singles lost the matches.

Women: Loras 0, Otterbein 7
The Purple and Gold opened the match down by a point as no Duhawk was able to secure a win in doubles. Mary Breitbach and Dorothy Deans fell to Erin Storrer and Olivia Eckels 1-6. Leia Papanicholas and Ellie Kalina faced the same fate to Lillia Walter and Daniela De Mata. The No.3 doubles of Alexis Tatum and Caroline Hutchinson were bested by Niya Bell and Aubrey McMahon 3-6.

The Duhawks would look to battle back in singles play, but Otterbein solidified the victory with a sweep of all six singles.

Up Next: Both teams take on Ursinus College at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 13 at 6:30 a.m. followed by the women taking on Piedmont University and the men facing The University of Saint Joseph at 2:30 p.m.
