ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Loras College men's volleyball team took down the Augustana College Vikings in three sets on Wednesday night at the Roy J. Carver Center.
The Duhawks led for most of the opening set, increasing their lead to as many as 10 (22-12) towards the end of the first set. Loras (9-1, 3-0 CCIW) closed out the first set with a kill by
Nolan Krygsheld to take the set by a score of 25-15.
Entering the second set, Augustana (10-6, 0-2) cut the opening lead to get within four (10-6), and battled back-and-forth with the Duhawks. By the middle of the second set,
Corey Mayotte's kill put them up by six (17-11) and the Purple and Gold held the lead all the way through the end of the set, taking it 25-18.
In the third set, the two clubs exchanged points back-and-forth, knotting the score up four times. By the middle stages of the set, the Duhawks pulled away after another kill by Mayotte. The Vikings tried getting a late rally going but it wasn't enough to take Loras down, as the Duhawks won the set 25-19.
Mayotte led the way for Loras with a match-high 15 kills.
Nolan Krygsheld and
Roman Rothermel were just behind Mayotte, finishing with 10 and six kills respectively. Krygsheld added 10 digs to his stat line, while
Brady Oberfoell tallied seven digs on the night.
Evan Dziadkowiec dished out 32 assists, while the Duhawks hit .461 as a team, registering 40 kills and five errors in 76 attempts.
Cole Clarke put down a team-high 12 kills for the Vikings, while also recording five digs on the night. Max Sellers finished with 11 digs, while Colin Schaefer handed out 29 assists. The Vikings hit .225, which included 35 kills and 15 errors in 89 attempts.
