CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Loras College men's tennis team lost on the road in a doubleheader against conference opponent Coe College and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Loras 0, Coe 7
The Kohawks grabbed the doubles point quickly with both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles falling 1-6, respectively. At No. 3 doubles Samuel Cañas Guerrero and
Nick Carney narrowly fell 3-6. Loras (2-2, 1-0 A-R-C) started of singles play down 0-1.
At No. 3 and No. 4 singles Cañas Guerrero and
Andrew Day were defeated 0-6, 0-6, respectively.
Sean Sonoiki was bested at No. 5 singles 1-6, 1-6.
Gage Becker was taken down by Grant Idoux 0-6, 3-6 at No. 2 singles. Diego Mejías played a nail biter against Bryton Short but ultimately fell 6-7, 3-6.
Lucas Healy put up a fight at No. 6 singles but was outlasted by Nathanial Miller, losing 4-6, 2-6.
Loras 1, UW-L 6
The Duhawks were defeated at all three doubles spots 1-6 by the Eagles. Loras started off singles action down 0-1. At No. 5 singles, Carney was defeated by Alex Aranda 0-6, 0-6. Cañas Guerrero fell at No. 4 singles 0-6, 1-6. At No. 3 singles Day was defeated by Brady Horstmann 2-6, 0-6. Mejías played another marathon match at No. 1 singles but unfortunately came up sort in the tiebreaker losing 6-0, 4-6, 15-17. Becker competed at No. 2 singles but was outdone by Ty Schneider 3-6, 4-6. The lone win for the Purple and Gold came from the No. 6 spot from
Henry Condo outlasting his opponent 7-5, 6-1.
UP NEXT: The Loras College men's tennis team will travel to take on Monmouth College and the Illinois Institute of Technology. First serve is at 9:30 a.m. in Clinton, Iowa.
