Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – There was no shortage of loud noises off the bats of the Duhawk hitters Monday morning, but there were none louder than the bat of sophomore
Colin Kissane, who willed his team to an 11-6 victory over Stockton University.
Out of the gates, the Purple and Gold were attacking the opposing pitcher, tallying five runs in the top of the first off back-to-back walks and four consecutive hits from
Vince Polizzi,
Jackson Cullen,
Nolan Czako, and Kissane. Three of the hits were doubles, and scored runs as well. After Czako reached, the Osprey opted to make a pitching change, and they escaped the inning.
This newfound momentum for Stockton (5-3, 0-0 NJAC) allowed them to make a roaring comeback. In the fifth, the Osprey were able to pull it within one run, but couldn't tie it up, thanks to some heroics by reliever
Danny Hiemer, who only allowed one run to score after coming in with bases loaded and one out.
In the top of the sixth,
Cody Sunny led off with a walk, and immediately after came around to score on a double from Kissane. Polizzi hit a single, Cullen did the same, and eventually
Max McCallum hit in two runs to push the lead to five.
Stockton countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough, as the Duhawks would finish the game off with an RBI single from Polizzi, and a ninth inning solo home run from Kissane.
Aiden O'Hara slammed the door on the Osprey, striking out six batters in his two innings.
Colin Kissane went 4-for-5 with three doubles and a home run.
Revelation
Kissane has been a revelation for the Duhawks this season, as he entered the year with only one career hit. Now, the Orland Park, Ill. native possesses team bests in batting average (.531), RBI (21), home runs (4), and on-base percentage through his first nine career starts.
On Deck: Loras will face off against the Bethel University Royals on Tuesday, March 11 at 8:30 a.m. central time before a day off on Wednesday.
