CHICAGO, Ill. – The No.13 Loras College men's volleyball team earned the season sweep over the North Park University Vikings with a 3-0 win tonight inside Carlson Gymnasium.
The Duhawks raced out to a 6-1 lead to start the opening set. Loras (14-4, 5-2 CCIW) extended its lead to 10 or more points 11 times, ultimately taking the first set by a score of 25-13.
The second set featured a little more back-and-forth play in the first points of the set. However, the Purple and Gold put themselves in front for the final time with a 4-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Duhawks held a 22-15 advantage toward the end of the set, sealing the 25-19 set two win with a
Roman Rothermel kill.
The Duhawks broke the final tie at 11-11 in set three with a kill from
Corey Mayotte. Loras completed the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third set.
Mayotte led the way for Loras with 15 kills and two blocks.
Nolan Krygsheld added in 12 kills and hit .611, while
Evan Dziadkowiec dished out 38 assists and tallied two service aces. The Purple and Gold hit .489 as a team, finishing with 49 kills and five errors in 90 attempts.
North Park (10-14, 2-5) led a balanced offensive attack with Ty Ingrao, Sam Robinson and Gerald Malana registering five kills apiece. Teddy Gedville handed out 17 assists, while Noah Chanthalangsy totaled a match-high 10 digs. The Vikings hit .169, finishing with 25 kills and 12 errors in 77 attempts.
