DUBUQUE, Iowa – The No. 13 Loras College men's volleyball team swept the season series over the No. 14 North Central Cardinals in three sets on Saturday afternoon.
The first set started back-and-forth, with the Duhawks taking a four-point lead (7-3). North Central (13-6, 5-3 CCIW) caught up and stayed within three points halfway through the set (18-15). A kill from
Corey Mayotte lifted the Duhawks to a set one win by a score of 25-22.
Entering the second set, North Central set the tone with two straight points, but Loras (15-4, 6-2 CCIW) flipped the script to lead by three (7-4). The Purple and Gold added more to their lead halfway through the set and didn't look back. Loras went on to win the second set, 25-20.
The third set saw the Cardinals controlling the pace of play (3-2). The Duhawks rallied to take the lead and led by as many as nine (18-9). The Purple and Gold dominated the rest of the way, sweeping the Cardinals after taking set three by a score of 25-14.
Mayotte earned a match-high 21 kills, which propelled him to becoming the program's all-time leader in kills (1,215).
Nolan Krygsheld tallied 10 kills and seven digs, while
Evan Dziadkowiec dished out 35 assists. The Duhawks hit .451 as a team, registering 45 kills and eight errors in 82 attempts.
BK Bartlett and Carson Steinbach each put down a team-high 11 kills for the Cardinals, with Steinbach having four digs. Jeffrey McEachern finished with six digs as well, while Tyler Donovan handed out 26 assists. North Central hit .159, which included 34 kills and 20 errors in 88 attempts.
