DUBUQUE, Iowa – The No. 11 Loras College men's volleyball team dominated the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans in three sets in its final regular season home game on Wednesday evening.
In the first set, both squads opened the scoring by battling back-and-forth (7-6). Loras (16-4, 7-2 CCIW) went on an 11-3 run (18-9) thanks to the defensive play of
Bo Brainerd III. In the end, the Duhawks pulled away with the first set, 25-13.
Illinois Wesleyan (12-11, 2-7) trialed the Purple and Gold in the opening stages of the second set. Halfway through, the Duhawks added to their lead by rallying behind back-to-back kills from
Nolan Krygsheld (14-8). By the end of the set, a service ace from Krygsheld sealed the deal, winning by a score of 25-15.
The third set saw the Duhawks set the tone early by going on a 10-2 run. Thanks to two attack errors, the Titans stayed within five halfway through the set (11-6). In the end, an attack error from the Titans closed out the set to give Loras a 25-13 set three win to complete the sweep.
Corey Mayotte tallied a match-high 13 kills to along with four digs and one assist.
Roman Rothermel totaled nine kills and two digs, while
Evan Dziadkowiec handed out 28 assists and five digs. As a team, the Duhawks hit .446, finishing with 37 kills and eight errors in 65 attempts.
Bryce Williams put down a team-high five kills for the Titans, with Ryan Myers having three kills and three digs. Vince DiCosola had 10 assists with two digs, while Brenden Reutter finished with three kills and three digs. The Titans hit -.115, which included 20 kills and 29 errors in 78 attempts.
