DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team fell to Truman State University on senior day Friday evening at Tucker Tennis Courts.
In doubles play, Leia Papanicholas and Ellie Kalina secured the Duhawks' lone win at No. 2 doubles, defeating Akansha Negi and Abbi Worster 6-3. At No. 1 doubles, Mary Breitbach and Dorothy Deans fell to Sydney Dial and Nayana Malangi 2-6, while Caroline Hutchinson and Lauren Keiper dropped their match at No. 3 doubles to Finley Laforge and Mary Grace Seymore 1-6. Loras entered singles play trailing 0-1.
Papanicholas and Alexis Tatum accounted for the Duhawks' two singles victories. Papanicholas defeated Negi 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, while Tatum edged Himari Maruyama in a tiebreaker at No. 6 singles, 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. At No. 1 singles, Breitbach fell to Dial 3-6, 0-6, while Deans lost to Malangi 3-6, 3-6 at No. 2. Hutchinson battled at No. 4 singles but ultimately fell to Laforge in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 7-5, 7-10. Kalina came up short at No. 5 singles, 3-6, 3-6.
Up next: Loras looks to bounce back as they travel to Bloomington, Illinois, on Sunday, March 30, to face Illinois Wesleyan University. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
