Duhawks Triumph Over the Titans

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – On Sunday, the Loras College women's tennis team claimed a 5-2 win over the Illinois Wesleyan Titans.
 
"Hot dog, what a performance today!" said Head Coach Cam Long as he and the team celebrated their victory over a dinner at Portillo's.

In doubles play, the No. 1 pair Mary Brietbach and Dorothy Deans claimed the only doubles victory with a 6-2 win. Leia Papanicholas and Ellie Kalina fell to Wesleyan's No. 2 pair 1-6. Finally, at the No. 3 spot Lauren Keiper and Caroline Hutchinson lost in a close battle 5-7. The Duhawks went into singles action with a 0-1 deficit.
 
Despite the slow start in doubles, the Purple and Gold battled back against the Titans and rattled off the next four singles matches, clinching the match. Hutchinson got the ball rolling at the No. 4 spot defeating Olivia Bell 6-2, 7-6(5). At No. 6 singles, Alexis Tatum conquered Andie Wilson 6-3, 6-4. Breitbach claimed a victory over her opponent at the No.1 spot 6-3, 6-3. Papanicholas secured the victory for the Duhawks at the No. 3 spot, prevailing over Katie Van Heuklon 7-6(2), 6-2. Deans lost a close contest at the No. 2 spot falling 6-7(4), 3-6. At the No. 5 spot, Kalina put the final tally in the win column for the Duhawks, beating Kate Christian 6-2, 7-6(5).
 
Up Next: The Loras College women's tennis team will be traveling to Rock Island, Ill. to take on the Augustana Vikings on Thursday, April 17.
