Men's Volleyball Snaps Two-Game Losing Streak with 3-0 Win Over Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Loras College men's volleyball team put itself back in the win column with a 3-0 sweep of the Dominican University Stars on Saturday afternoon inside the Igini Sports Forum.

The Duhawks trailed 20-17 late in the opening set, but benefited from four Dominican (7-8, 3-1 NACC) errors and four kills from Corey Mayotte to take set one by a score of 25-23.

The Stars led for the majority of the second set, increasing their advantage to as many as seven (15-8) midway through the set. Loras (10-3, 3-1 CCIW) broke the 15th tie of the set at 30-30 thanks to a setting error by the home team and a kill from Mayotte to take a 2-0 lead in the match with the 32-30 set two win.

The Purple and Gold led from start to finish in set three, leading by seven multiple times throughout the set. A block from Bo Brainerd III and Connor Jaral sealed the 25-18 set three victory for the Duhawks.

Mayotte led the way for Loras, putting down 22 kills and hitting .395 on the day. Ryan Floyd dished out 30 assists, while Brainerd registered four blocks to go along with six kills of his own.  As a team, the Duhawks hit .315, finishing with 42 kills and 13 errors in 92 attempts.

Nathaniel Cossyleon and Ty Geschke led a balanced attack for Dominican, totaling 11 and 10 kills respectively. Landon Kassulke handed out 30 assists, while Tyler Vrska tallied a match-high nine digs. The Stars hit .247 as a team, registering 37 kills and 15 errors in 89 attempts.
