DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's tennis team earned a 5-2 win over crosstown rival University of Dubuque on Wednesday evening.
The Duhawks picked up their lone doubles victory at No. 2, where Samuel Canas Guerrero and
Sean Sonoiki defeated Tony Zuccaro and Elia Desario, 6-1. At the No. 1 spot, Diego Mejias and
Gage Becker fell to Gavin Murrie and Jake Wallrichs, 7-5, while
Lucas Healy and
Jackson Craig lost to Ryan Kiddle and Andrew Bollis, 6-1. Loras entered singles play trailing 1-0.
In singles action, the Duhawks rallied to win five of six matches. At No. 1, Mejias gained the upper hand against Murrie in a three-set battle, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 10-7. Becker followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Wallrichs at No. 2.
Canas Guerrero came up short at No. 3, falling to Pedwar Castillo in a tight match, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9. Healy picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Kiddle, while Sonoiki took down Bollis at No. 5, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Henry Condo closed out the win with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Desario at No. 6.
