Men's Track and Field Celebrates Seniors and Earns Eight First Place Finishes

DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Loras College men's track and field team hosted its Easter Midweek meet Tuesday afternoon at the Rock Bowl and honored its senior class during the event.
 
The Duhawks followed the women's team with a strong showing of their own, earning eight first-place finishes.
 
DreAnthony Jackson led the way for Loras, winning the shot put with a mark of 17.37 meters which is the fifth-best distance in Division III this season and second in program history. Jackson also posted a personal best in the hammer throw with a distance of 51.46 meters, improving his previous mark by nearly five meters.
 
Ian Fagan recorded his first collegiate win in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 10.89 seconds. He added another personal best in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.77 seconds, ranking eighth in program history.
 
Fagan was joined in the 200 by three teammates who also set personal records, Aaron Ayobami (22.62), Zeke Irving (22.63) and DJ Almada (22.65).
 
The 400-meter hurdles featured a family face off, as brothers Matt and Ted Kruse claimed the top two spots with times of 54.45 and 54.60, respectively. Ian Lucas finished third, posting a personal record of 57.50.
 
Daken Pessman added a five-meter personal best in the javelin, finishing with a mark of 45.57 meters.
 
Joe Franke secured a win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.57 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team of Jacob Belha, Sam Horman, Everett McDonald and Jack Beehler also claimed first place with a time of 3:37.40.
 
In the field events, Rei'Shaun Spires won both the long jump (6.25 meters) and triple jump (13.43 meters), while Alex Wilson took first in the pole vault with a height of 4.25 meters.
 
Up next: Loras will head to Des Moines, Iowa to compete at the Drake Relays, scheduled for Thursday, April 24 through Saturday, April 26.
