April 16, 2025

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Despite two closely contested games, the Loras College softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against the No. 22-ranked Simpson College Storm.

Game One: Loras 0, No. 22 Simpson College 1

The bats were quiet in the first leg of the doubleheader for Loras (18-13 overall, 5-6 A-R-C ), coming away with five hits as a team. Katherine Svigelj, Kaili Henning, Morgan Machovec, and Whitney Leipold, all found themselves in the hit column for the Purple and Gold.

Henning got the ball in game one and ran into her only trouble early in the first inning when Simpson (26-3, 7-2) got back-to-back doubles from Ashlyn Steen and Megan Heidelbauer that ended up being the difference.

Game Two: Loras 5, No. 22 Simpson College 8

The bats came alive for both teams in the second half of the doubleheader, leading to 20 combined hits between the two squads.

Simpson (27-3, 8-2) scored the game's first two runs in the bottom of second, but the Duhawks responded with a two-run inning of their own in the third frame. Machovec started a streak of three consecutive hits for Loras. Clare Murphy followed Machovec's single with a double down the left field line to put runners on second and third with one out. The following at-bat, Emily Monahan laid down a bunt single that brought Machovec across the plate and Leipold followed suit the following at-bat with another bunt, allowing Murphy to score on a Storm error.

Loras (18-14, 5-7) took their first lead (4-2) with another two-run inning, this time in the fourth. The Duhawks loaded the bases for Henning, who came through with a base hit to left field that scored Svigelj, who walked, and Leipold, who reached on a hit.

The Storm would outscore Loras 6-1 for the remainder of the game. The run included a three-run bottom of the fourth, followed by a three-run bottom of the sixth, highlighted by a Heidelbauer two-run home run.

Up Next: Loras welcomes Central College to Faber-Clark Field Saturday, April 26, for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Duhawks will be honoring it's senior class for their dedication over the past four years.
