Duhawks Turn in Strong Performances at Drake Alternative

WHITEWATER, Wis. — The Loras College men's track and field team delivered a strong showing Thursday at the Drake Alternative meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at the Rex Foster Track Complex.
 
The Duhawks recorded six personal records and eight season-best performances. Elliot Frideres led the way with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash, posting a personal best time of 50.10 seconds. In the steeplechase, Logan Hoger placed second with a PR of 10:08.46, followed by Brayden Frey in fourth at 10:13.39.
 
Jack Beehler (14th, 4:03.94) and Aiden Ruiz (25th, 4:08.19) set personal records in the 1,500-meter run, while Charlie Irwin added a PR of 23.13 in the 200-meter dash.
 
In the field events, Carter Allen (50.23 meters) and Nick Pierro (37.58 meters) recorded season-best marks in the discus. In the 800-meter run, four Duhawks turned in season-best times: Enoch Thielhelm (13th, 2:02.29), Aaron Lodwig (16th, 2:03.56), Gavin Denholm (17th, 2:04.03), and Kyle Leatherman (28th, 2:13.04).
 
Frank Day ran a season-best 22.38 in the 200-meter dash, placing 19th, while Cade Messer finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:38.66.
 
Earlier in the week, six Duhawks competed Wednesday at the Rittgers Invitational, hosted by Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In the 100-meter dash, Daken Pessman placed second in 11.24 seconds and Rei'Shaun Spires finished sixth in 11.50. Both also competed in the triple jump, where Spires placed fourth (13.15 meters) and Pessman fifth (12.81 meters).
 
In the 800 meters, Vince Frederiksen took sixth (2:08.85) and Everett McDonald finished eighth (2:11.91). In the 3,000-meter run, Colby Cryer earned second place in 8:56.72, while Will Yasdick placed eighth in 9:46.56.
 
Up next: Loras will continue action at the Drake Relays through Saturday, April 26, and conclude the Kip Janvrin Open on Friday, April 25.
