DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's tennis team dropped a match to Wartburg College on Tuesday afternoon at the Tucker Tennis Courts.
Loras earned its lone doubles victory at the No. 1 spot, where
Gage Becker and Diego Mejias cruised to a 6-1 win over Cade Davis and Robert Matera. The Duhawks fell in the other two doubles matches, with
Lucas Healy and
Jackson Craig losing 6-1 at No. 2 to Milan Lecic and Jeff Miller, and Samuel Canas Guerrero and
Sean Sonoiki dropping a close 6-4 contest at No. 3 to Landon Murch and Kyle Sehlin. Wartburg entered singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Mejias and Becker secured the only singles points for Loras. Mejias defeated Davis 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, while Becker outlast Miller 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2.
The Knights claimed the remaining singles matches. Canas Guerrero fell in three sets at No. 3, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, while Healy dropped a 2-6, 2-6 decision to Lecic at No. 4. At No. 5, Sonoiki battled to force a third set but ultimately fell to Sehlin, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7), 0-6. In the final match,
Horia Popa lost 0-6, 3-6 to Murch.
