DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's track and field team posed a strong showing at the Battle of the Bluffs meet, hosted by cross-town rival University of Dubuque.
Ian Fagan led the Duhawks with a lifetime-best time of 47.82 seconds in the 400-meter run, ranking fourth all-time in program history. Fagan also contributed to the 4x100 meter relay team, alongside
Derik Bunten,
Casey Tath and
Dayvion Foreman, which posted a season-best time of 41.02 seconds.
Freshman
Zeke Irving broke the 49-second barrier for the first time in his career, finishing third in the 400 meters at 48.68 seconds.
The Duhawks added five more first-place finishes on the day.
Carson Hendrey won the 800-meter run in 1:56.01, while
Isaac Bourne took first in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:58.14.
Cade Messer secured the win in the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line in 15:35.81.
In the field events, Bunten won the long jump with a mark of 6.95 meters, and
Carter Allen claimed the discus title with a throw of 51.15 meters, a mark that ranks 11
th in Division III.
Three additional Duhawks,
Carlo Dannenfelser,
Jacob Belha and
Joe Franke competed at the Wisconsin Badger Challenge. Dannenfelser and Belha posted personal bests in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in 3:50.67 and 3:52.48, respectively, good for sixth and ninth on the program's all-time list. Franke clocked 1:49.87 in the 800 meters to place second overall and now ranks seventh nationally in Division III.
Up next: Loras heads to Indianola, Iowa, for the American Rivers Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Simpson College. The meet runs Thursday, May 8, through Saturday, May 10.
