ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Loras College women's volleyball team concluded the Bear Invite hosted by Washington University in St. Louis this past Friday and Saturday with a 1-2 record.
The Purple and Gold defeated Webster University in straight sets to start the tournament, before falling 3-0 to the No. 11-ranked host in the nightcap. The Duhawks came up short in their final match on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Carthage College.

Game Facts
- The Duhawks broke an early 4-4 tie with a 6-0 run to take a 10-4 lead in the opening set. The Gorloks came back to knot the score at 22-22, but Loras was able to secure the 29-27 set one win after kills from Cat Meyer and Elaina Schroeder and a well-timed attack error from Webster.
- The Purple and Gold raced out to an 11-1 lead in the second set and never looked back. Webster cut the lead to just one (18-17), but the Duhawks responded with a 5-0 run to create a more comfortable advantage. Loras took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 set two win.
- Webster held a 9-0 lead early on, but the Duhawks worked their way back to tie the score up at 14-14. Loras broke the final tie at 24-24 after benefiting from a Gorlok attack error and a Cat Meyer kill.

- The Duhawks could not keep up with the Carthage offense in the first set. The Firebirds broke the only tie at 5-5 with a 20-6 run to take the set, 25-11.
- Loras bounced back in set two. The Purple and Gold weathered an 8-1 run from the Firebirds which put them behind 17-12. The Duhawks put themselves back in the game, tying the score up four times before the end of the set. A Sophie Younkin kill gave the Duhawks a 25-23 set two win, tying the match up at one set apiece.
- Carthage came out on top in sets three (25-20) and four (25-16) to take the match, 3-1
- Loras hit .099, which featured 32 kills and 20 errors in 121 attempts.

Up Next: The Duhawks travel to Milwaukee, Wis. for the Wisconsin Lutheran College Quadrangular on Sept. 5-6. Loras will take on Illinois College and St. Norbert College on Friday at 4 and 6 p.m. respectively, before closing out the tournament against the host on Saturday at 12 p.m.
