DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College men's soccer team earned a 3-0 shutout over Bethany Lutheran on Saturday afternoon at the Rock Bowl.
The Duhawks (2-0-3) broke through in the 26th minute when
Gavin Pienkowski converted a corner kick from
Joseph Sorce for his second goal of the year. Less than a minute later, Sorce extended the lead with his first collegiate goal, assisted by
Kael Pacaro and
Dominic Scandariato.
Bethany Lutheran (0-4-2) pressed after halftime, firing 14 second-half shots, but goalkeeper
Alexander Drexler and the Loras back line turned away every attempt. Drexler finished with five saves to record the clean sheet.
Sep Heerkens capped the scoring in the 79th minute with his third goal of the season, finishing a set piece from Scandariato, who tallied two assists in the match.
Though outshot 17-16 overall, Loras proved sharper in front of goal, placing nine shots on target compared to the Vikings' five.
Up next: The Duhawks return to action Sunday, Sept. 14, hosting Kalamazoo College at 2 p.m. in the Rock Bowl.
