Loras Victorious Over Monmouth and Ripon

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Loras College women's tennis team got their first wins of the season after defeating Monmouth College and Ripon College on Saturday.

Loras College 5, Monmouth College 2

Ellie Kalina and Saydie Roling got the Duhawks (1-1 Overall, 0-1 American Rivers Conference) off to a good start at No. 2 doubles, winning their match 6-2. Alexis Tatum and Brooke Burger followed suit with a 6-2 win of their own, while the duo of Mary Breitbach and Megan Covelli completed the Loras sweep in doubles at the No. 1 position with a 6-3 victory.

In singles, Roling grabbed the first point for Loras with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Alayna McKinley. Tatum was the next Duhawk to win, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Kimber Calvert. Breitbach was able to grab the third point for the Purple and Gold with a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles while Lauren Keiper capped off singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles

Loras College 6, Ripon College 1

The Duhawks (2-1, 0-1) picked up right where they left off, with a sweep in doubles. At No. 1 doubles, Breitbach and Covelli took down Hadley Berendsen and Josie Rondestvedt 6-1. Kalina and Roling took down Jessica Griepentrog and Catherine Skoglund 6-3 at No. 3 doubles, while Tatum and Burger completed the sweep at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 victory.

After taking a 1-0 lead into singles play, Breitbach wasted no time getting her team another point, taking down Rondestvedt at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Roling would follow Breitbach with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5. Tatum would go onto grab another Duhawk point at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Skoglund. Kalina was victorious over Berendsen 6-4, 6-1, while Burger completed the victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Allison Pavlovec.

Up Next: Loras will travel to Waverly, Iowa for a match up against the Wartburg College Knights on Sept. 10 at 4 PM.
