WAVERLY, Iowa – The Loras College men's basketball team completed the season sweep of the Wartburg College Knights on Saturday afternoon inside Levick Arena by a score of 111-90.
The Duhawks were guided by junior
Nolan Berendes who had a career night. The Dubuque, Iowa native led the charge with 44 points which was highlighted by shooting 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from three. Altogether, Berendes shot 60.8 percent (14-of-23) from the floor, a mark that places him in a four-way tie for second most field goals made in a game. Berendes' 44 points also ties Mike Lambe for third most points scored in a single game, in addition to joining Chris Jans in third for most three-pointers made in a game.
Berendes opened the scoring for the Duhawks, tallying 12 of the team's first 14 points. Loras (15-5 overall, 9-2 A-R-C) increased its lead to 11 (31-20) thanks to a 9-0 run in the middle of the first half. Three-pointers from Berendes and
Kyle Kober gave the Duhawks a nine-point (61-52) advantage at the half.
Loras opened the second half right where it left off with another three from Berendes. An eight-point run from Wartburg (12-8, 4-7) shrunk the Loras lead to three (66-63), but a three from
Jack Haynes and a pair of free throws from Kober put the Duhawks back up eight (71-63). Six more points from Haynes late in the second half shut the door on a comeback attempt from the Knights.

Dylan Kurt joined Berendes as double-digit scorers, finishing with 19, 17, and 13 points respectively. As a team, the Duhawks shot 56.3 percent (36-of-64) from the field and 50.0 percent (18-of-36) from beyond the arc.
