Box Score 2 MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Loras College men's tennis team opened up their spring season with a 1-1 split at Cornell College. The Duhawks got a win over Martin Luther, 7-0, before falling to Cornell College, 5-2.

It was a clean sweep for the Loras men against the Knights to kick off their spring season. In doubles action,
Sean Sonoiki and
Jackson Craig defeated Johannes Bourman and Eli Stern 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles,
Andrew Day and
Horia Popa picked up a 6-2 win over Gideon Heins and Isaiah Scharf. Then it was the duo of
Nick Carney and
Jack Seda completing the sweep with a 6-3 win over Matthew Koeplin and Abraham Schlomer.
In singles play,
Dali Martens got the first win, defeating Stern 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Then it was
Abhyudit Nagar getting a win at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0, followed by Samuel Canas Guerrero at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0. Popa got a win over Heins at the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-1, while
Jaimes Palmer was victorious at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bourman. Carney secured the Duhawk sweep with a 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 win over Koeplin.
Cornel College 5, Loras College 2
The duo of Nagar and Canas Guerrero were the lone Loras winners in doubles play, taking down Andrew Campbell and Samuel Cumicek, 6-4. Down 1-0 going into singles play, Martin evened the score with a 0-6, 6-0, 1-0 win at No. 2 singles. Palmer was responsible for the second Duhawk point after his 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles.
Up Next: Loras will return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 7, as they travel to Madison, Wis. Loras will take on the University of Northwestern (Minn.) at 2 p.m. followed by Edgewood University at 5:30 p.m.
