NEENAH, Wis. – The Loras College men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Sunday afternoon. The Duhawks fell to University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before defeating Ripon College.
Loras 2, UW-Stevens Point 5
Loras got out to 1-0 lead after the duos of
Gage Becker and
Hayden Martin, and
Abhyudit Nagar and Samuel Canas Guerrero won their doubles matches. Becker and Martin were winners at No.1 6-4, while Nagar and Canas Guerrero won 6-1 at No. 3.
In singles play,
Dali Martens was the only Duhawk to secure a win. Martens needed tiebreakers in sets two and three but ultimately came away with a 4-6, 7-6, and 1-0 win at No. 4 singles.
Loras 5, Ripon College 2
Unlike the morning match, Loras fell behind 1-0 after singles play after dropping matches at the No. 1 and 2 position.
In singles play, Loras was able to win five of the six matches en route to their win. Nagar was victorious at No. 2, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, while
Nick Carney won at No. 3, 6-7, 6-2, 10-6.
Jackson Craig won his match at No. 4, 6-0, 6-2, while
Jimmy Krcmarik won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5.
Luis Garcia rounded out the Duhawk singles winners with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6.
Up Next: Loras will begin preparation for their trip to Orlando, Fla. on Mar. 9-12. The Duhawks will play five matches in four days.
