Two Duhawks Earn American Rivers Conference Athlete of the Week Honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A pair of Duhawks were named American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) Athletes of the Week in their respective sports the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

In women's track and field, Keelee Leitzen continues to prove she is one of the top athletes in Division III. This past weekend at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational Leitzen ran a 2:09.83 in the 800 meter run which broke her own school record, ranks second in all of Division III, and is the all-time fastest 800 meter time in A-R-C history.

The Duhawk track and field squads return to action on Friday, Feb. 20 as they split across two meets. Athletes will be competing at the Sol Butler Classic hosted by University of Dubuque and the Caged Eagle Invite hosted by University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.

From men's basketball, Jack Haynes grabbed his first career Player of the Week honor following his performance in a pair of Duhawk wins this past week. The Streator, Ill. native averaged 20.5 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game in wins over Luther College and Nebraska Wesleyan University. The senior scored a game-high 20 points and secured a game-high 12 rebounds in the 63-58 win over the Norse and tied a game-high with 21 points and nine rebounds in the 72-66 victory over the Prairie Wolves.

Haynes currently ranks at the top of multiple statistical categories during A-R-C play. He ranks third in points per game (18.3), second in rebounds per game (9.5), and is fifth in field goal percentage, shooting 55.9 percent from the floor.

Loras will travel to Storm Lake, Iowa for the A-R-C regular season finale against the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday, Feb. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
