Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Duhawks couldn't overcome an early deficit in a 12-9 loss to the Muskies.
Loras (5-4, 0-0 A-R-C) represented the home team and quickly found themselves out in front, thanks to three runs on two hits from
Jack Carney and
Ryan Quinlan in the bottom of the first.
The three-run lead was short-lived however, as Lakeland (3-6, 0-0 NACC) plated ten unanswered runs spanning four innings. They tallied up nine hits and took advantage of four Duhawk errors as well, which set Lakeland firmly in the driver's seat.
The Purple and Gold awakened offensively in the sixth, with
Colin Kissane unleashing his fifth homer of the year. Then in the ensuing inning, Loras would manage to plate five, with
Vince Polizzi hitting a three-run shot, and
Isiah Rose smacking in two more with his first dinger of his career.
Simultaneously,
Will Moonan came in for a relief outing and shined in his role, going 3.1 innings, allowing just two runs, neither of which were earned.
Despite all this, the Purple and Gold just simply didn't have enough juice left. They were scoreless in the eighth, and in the ninth, the Muskies knocked in two runs to put the game out of reach.
On Deck: Loras continues forward in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational with a standalone contest tomorrow against Ohio Northern University. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. eastern standard time.
