WINTERHAVEN, Fla.- Loras found little footing offensively and issued eight free passed en route to their fifth loss of the season, 7-3.
The Purple and Gold sprinkled hits throughout the contest and were able to work runners into scoring position three times in the first few frames, but the starting pitcher for University of Wisconsin-Superior (7-3, 0-0 UMAC) kept Loras (6-5, 0-0 A-R-C) on their toes and continuously worked out of sticky situations.
The Yellow Jackets plated runs in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh, working off the free bases allowed by
Daniel Giusto and
Will Moonan to manufacture their seven spot.
It wasn't until the eighth inning that the Duhawks would score.
Colin Kissane was hit by a pitch on the back foot and following a strikeout,
Ben Shea singled to put runners on the corners.
Loras opted to pinch-hit for
Jake Zeal, who went 1-for-3, and they went with the standout freshman
Isiah Rose. This turned out to be the right move, as Rose deposited a ball over the left field wall, marking his second homer of the season, to trim the deficit.
Despite a spirited relief effort from
Ethan Rogers, the Purple and Gold went out with a whimper in the ninth and dropped their second game in the Sunshine State.
On Deck: The Duhawks round out their trip to Florida with one last game versus University of Wisconsin-River Falls. First pitch is set for 9:15 a.m. eastern time.
