STORM LAKE, Iowa – Loras utilized a six-run fourth to bury Buena Vista University in game one of the three game series between the two schools.
Daniel Giusto received his fifth start of the season and collected his third win, as he was able to strike out a trio of Beavers and work out of some traffic.
Giusto's effort kept Buena Vista University (5-13, 1-3 A-R-C) at bay long enough for the offense to pounce in the fourth.
The inning began with
Vince Polizzi reaching on an error, followed by
Colin Kissane knocking him in on a triple to right field. Loras (8-9, 2-2 A-R-C) added on thanks to a couple more extra base hits from
Jackson Cullen and
Cody Sunny, along with a two RBI single from
Alex Sandoval.
The brass of upperclassmen set the tone with that six-run top frame, and the Purple and Gold never looked back from there.
They forced seven pitching changes from Buena Vista and utilized great performances from
Vince McDowell and
Ben Shea at the dish to solidify a 15-run game one.
Lucas Weiner shut the door on the Beavers, working through three innings and allowing just one earned run, as the Duhawks would cruise to a 15-7 victory.
On Deck: The Purple and Gold finish the series with Buena Vista tomorrow in Storm Lake, Iowa. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1:00 p.m.
