Duhawks Pick Up Two Wins at Marian Triangular

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Loras College men's volleyball team snapped its three-game losing streak by picking up a pair of wins over Benedictine University and Marian University in a triangular match on Saturday inside Sadoff Gymnasium.

  • Benedictine jumped out to an early lead (3-10 with a Tucker Lambert service ace. The Eagles broke a 23-23 tie with a Hunter Vedder kill and a block from Jaron Lindsay and Jacob Thomas to secure a 25-23 set one win. 
  • Loras built a cushion midway through the second set behind kills from Bo Brainerd III and closed the frame when Roman Rothermel hammered down a late kill to even the match at one set apiece. 
  • Loras kept momentum as Anthony Schwarz delivered a service ace, while Rothermel and Brainerd III combined for several key swings, before Brainerd III ended the set with a kill off Evan Dziadkowiec's set to give the Duhawks a 2-1 match lead. 
  • Benedictine answered back with a balanced attack as Lambert added another service ace and Lindsay and Shawn Sullivan produced kills, before Thomas delivered a late kill to push the match to a decisive fifth set.  
  • In the tight tiebreaker, Lindsay and Lambert kept Benedictine close with kills, but Loras countered with Elijah Passey finishing a rally with a kill. Several swings from Brainerd III, helped the Duhawks edge out the final two points to win the match 3–2.

  • Loras benefited from back-to-back Marian errors to break the final tie at 9-9. A service error from Tyler McGown sealed the 25-23 set one win for the Duhawks. 
  • Marian evened the match as JJ Ross and Trent Goo Sun generated offense. Ghreysen Scully's kill sealed the 25-21 set two win for the Sabres. 
  • The Duhawks regained momentum in the third, turning a close set into a comfortable lead with an efficient attacking stretch led by Rothermel and Brainerd III.
  • Loras closed the match in dominant fashion, jumping out early and controlling the set with strong blocking and balanced offense to secure the four-set victory.
