CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Five members of the Loras College softball team have earned American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) All-Conference honors, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Kaili Henning, last years A-R-C Rookie of the Year, was selected as the conferences Pitcher of the Year this season after a dominant sophomore campaign. The Fort Dodge, Iowa native led the A-R-C with 51 strikeouts, posted a 2.68 earned run average, and held opposing batters to a conference best .140 batting average.
Kiya Steger found her name on the first team All-Conference list after a second team All-Conference appearance last season. The sophomore set multiple records this year for Loras and proved to be a tough out for anyone. The Dyersville, Iowa native posted a .408 batting average in conference play and ranked inside the top-five in slugging percentage at .816. Steger finished the conference season ranking ninth in hits (20), first in home runs (6), and second in RBIs (19).
Ava Franklin is making an All-Conference team for the first time in her Duhawk career. The Westchester, Ill. native earned second team honors after starting every game at the shortstop position this year. The senior finished A-R-C play with a .347 batting average, 17 hits, and 11 runs scored. She also recorded 32 assists with only four errors.
Dana Skorich is earning back-to-back second team All-Conference nods after setting the new single season hits record this season. The sophomore from Crystal Lake, Ill. posted a .357 conference batting average, racked up 20 hits, eight of which were doubles, and led the conference in at-bats with 56.
Freshman
Ellie Baker capped off her impressive rookie season with All-Conference honorable mention honors. The Norwalk, Iowa native ranked second on the Duhawks with a .375 batting average and stole a team-high 17 bases. She ranked 12
th in the A-R-C in on base percentage at .476 and posted a .353 batting average against conference opponents.
The Purple and Gold finished A-R-C play with a 9-7 record that included a trip to the conference championship game for the first time in program history.
Up Next: Loras will head to Angola, Ind. and the campus of Trine University for NCAA Tournament Regional play. The Duhawks are set to take on the No. 24-ranked University of Rochester (NY) on Thursday, May 15. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. eastern time.
